Benefits of Yoga for Athletic Performance

The majority if not all top athletes and/or elite sportspeople incorporate some form of mobility work into their training schedule

People ask me all the time about the benefits of yoga and how it translates to Sport and Athletic Performance. So will it actually make a difference? HELL YEA!

The majority if not all top athletes and/or elite sportspeople incorporate some form of mobility work into their training schedule, whether it’s Pilates, Yoga, static stretching or one of the many other forms but don’t be fooled into thinking it’s just for people who play a sport or go to the gym, literally everyone can benefit from yoga (no matter how inflexible you feel), even if it’s only 10/15 mins a day or week.

It improves:

1. Flexibility

2. Mobility

3. Range of Motion

4. Power

5. Endurance

6. Balance & Stability

7. Focus & Concentration

8. Body awareness/Proprioception

9. Injury Prevention

10. Breathing (Control)

11. Recovery

If you want to work on any of the above, Yoga for Muscle Recovery is on the schedule in Leeson St on Tuesdays @ 13.30 (45 mins) and Saturdays @ 09.3o & 10.30 (45mins) and is part of your membership.

My classes combine dynamic yoga flow (vinyasa style) and mobility exercises as it's all about feeling good and moving with intent and control.

It's great for active recovery especially if you just can't face another Metcon or strength session!

Each Wednesday, I will take an in-depth look into one of the benefits above and give you no nonsense, easy to understand information around it.
