Throwing in the towel If you decided to stop training (or really take your foot off the gas) until the New Year. This comes from a place of kindness and I'm obviously biased but I also believe I'm right with the following. Open your eyes and think about this logically. Between December 1st and January 7th (which is when the majority of people will actually start training again), That's 38 days. That's 38 days of "putting things on hold until the new year" Unfortunately you are not putting things on hold if you stop training you are taking a few steps back. What is actually happening in reality? You are going out more, eating more treats, eating and drinking more frequently and having access to more food in general. Your energy intake is gradually increasing each day and your energy expenditure is generally decreasing. If you decide to stop training and go down this route you will put on weight. This is called the law of thermodynamics and it holds you bang to rights every time. The Gainz Grinch

If you think I'm being a grinch I can assure you I'm all about the festive spirit. I don't expect anyone to not have a great time over Christmas. Go out have fun , be Merry, have great food and have great times with friends and your families. However, you can use what appears to be a slight roadblock to your progress as an opportunity to enhance it. If your energy intake is slightly increasing and you keep your training/activity up you have a chance to put on some lean muscle or you have more energy to produce bigger efforts. Or by simply keeping your training up you can massively dilute some of the less desirable effects of the festive season. Think to lift a little more, going a little faster, going a little longer, being a little more intense, doing a little bit extra here and there. If the frequency of your training decreases really try and smash the sessions you have the opportunity to do. Ideally, you will always make positive decisions for your health and body composition having a training session tied it can be a greater "framer" on when you are faced with making some challenging decisions. You can't out train a bad diet but for a few weeks you can If you want to start training at FFS in the New Year or you want to get a family or loved an FFS training gift for Christmas just contact here

No Gym, No Excuses

The body needs a break but it generally doesn't need a break from activity. So when you are on your Christmas holidays embrace the opportunity to try something new or different. It can be as simple as going for a long walk, a hike, a jog, a run, a cycle, 5 a side, golf, swimming, bodyweight workouts etc. Generally, the less intense something is the longer you can do it for. You will be shocked at how far and how long you can go at a moderate pace in a lot of different activities. If you have some time off work take this opportunity to do some of these longer form things. If you only get 45 mins to smash yourself in metcon during a normal week go for a long run/walk see how far you go. Just keeping in mind that keeping your activity up over the break and not vegging out for two weeks on the couch will keep you sane and healthier but just make sure you pick something fun. Here's a simple bodyweight workout if you get snow in during Christmas.
